Snezhynka is Russian for snowflake, when I saw the cyrillic I thought it looked like 'Chynka' so that became her call name. Chynka is the second sammy I have owned. I bought her as a pet after my previous sammy had to be put down due to GI bleeding from a large tumor at 14 years old. I was asked by the breeders (Deb Ray and Theresa Moreno) if I would keep her intact as she was possibly a show potential dog and they wanted to see her once she matured a bit more. I agreed and in the mean time started her in obedience classes. She was a stellar student and my instructors encouraged me to show her in competitive obedience. That year Chynka got national ranking in novice A obedience with a #7 all breed, #1 working group and #1 samoyed, she also was awarded #3 overall obedience samoyed for 2004 at the SCA national specialty. I had trained her up to utility level obedience by the time she was a year of age and I to some extent regret that. When I started showing her in open she was bored and decided to get VERY creative with the exercises. I have had to pull her out for quite a while and I don’t think she will ever be willing to do competitive obedience again (lesson learned on my part!) In the mean time she has obtained her conformation championship, has her rally advanced title, is close to getting her working samoyed title (therapy work, pack hiking and herding). Her first and only litter of puppies (Sullie X Chynka) produced some very nice puppies. Dixie is the one I kept to continue my breeding program. |
